Timeless Romance at The Griffin House - Ian & Nicole's Intentional Wedding & First Dance

Ian & Nicole share a first dance dip kiss high above the Columbia River Gorge

Some couples have a way of making the world disappear when they dance - and Ian & Nicole were exactly that.

From the very first lesson, it was clear that their first dance was about creating a moment that felt authentically them. Every rehearsal was filled with laughter, trust, and an intentional desire to celebrate their love for one another.

Watching it all come to life at their spring wedding at the Griffin House was incredibly rewarding.

A Romantic First Dance

Ian & Nicole chose to dance a timeless waltz to "(I Love You) for Sentimental Reasons" by Nat King Cole, and it couldn't have suited them more. The song perfectly reflected the classic, romantic feel of their wedding day while allowing them to move naturally and confidently together. The biggest hurdle was how slow this song was. Most couples think learning a first dance to a slower song is easier (which it is to pick up the movements in the moment during lessons), but it is much harder to perform during your big day. Staying on beat and not rushing when all eyes are on you can feel challenging but these newlyweds took it in stride.

Some couples simply perform choreography. Ian & Nicole locked in and told a story.

From the moment they stepped onto the dance floor, they radiated calm joy and effortless connection. Every movement drew their family and friends deeper into the moment until it felt like the rest of the room had disappeared. Their dance wasn't just beautiful - it was deeply personal, and that's exactly what the best first dances should be.

In fact post wedding, Nicole reached out to me and said "I have to say, performing our first dance ended up being one of my absolute favorite parts of our wedding. I thought I was going to be so nervous, but it turned out to be so much fun and such a special moment for the two of us. We loved every second of it, and now we have a dance that's uniquely ours whenever we want to relive that moment."

Why First Dance Lessons Matter

One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding dance lessons is that they're only for experienced dancers. The truth is, most of the couples we work with throughout Portland, Eugene, and across Oregon have little or no dance experience at all.

Wedding dance lessons aren't about becoming performers. They're about helping couples feel comfortable, connected, and confident so they can truly enjoy one of the most memorable moments of their wedding day.

Whether that means a simple, elegant waltz, or a sassy upbeat Bachata number, our goal is always the same: create a dance that feels natural, true to you and allows your relationship to shine.

A Griffin House Wedding Never Disappoints

The Griffin House is one of Oregon's most breathtaking wedding venues, and it's easy to understand why so many couples choose to celebrate there. Perched high above the Columbia River Gorge, it offers sweeping panoramic views where rolling hills, lush forests, and endless skies blend into a breathtaking backdrop and an atmosphere that perfectly complements romantic wedding celebrations.

This year, we'll be working with more couples getting married at the Griffin House than at any other venue, and while each of our couples are so different and unique, every wedding reminds us how beautifully the space lends itself to meaningful moments like a couple's first dance. At the Griffin House you can practice your first dance during couples portraits or sunset pictures in front of the stunning backdrop of the Columbia River Gorge and then comfortably perform your dance in their sheltered (and new!) outdoor tent - safe from the elements on a sturdy dance floor.

Ian & Nicole's dance was a beautiful reminder that the most unforgettable first dances aren't the most complicated—they're the ones filled with genuine love, intention, and joy.

Congratulations again, Ian & Nicole. Thank you for allowing PNW Wedding Dance to be part of such a meaningful chapter in your story.
